| Trims
and Bleeds: Finally now I can understand... |
| If you wish to design
your printed piece as full bleed, here is a brief explanation
of how it works:
Printing full bleed is the ability to print
right to the edge of the page, with no border. The way this
is usually done is to create a design that is slightly larger
than the final trim size of the printed piece.
Let's assume you want to do a full bleed 8
1/2" x 11" page. The graphic below shows a design
with 1/8" (.125") of bleed, and the crop (or trim)
marks where the page will physically be cut to create the
effect of the printed design going all the way to the edges
of the page.

 |
|
Notice how the "live" design elements
are positioned well away from the trim edges of the design.
It is very important to keep these elements at least 1/4"
away from the final trim edges to prevent them from getting
cut off.
The minimum amount of bleed we accept
is 1/8" (.125") and this applies no matter what
the overall size of your design is. If you send a design that
is full bleed, but do not indicate where the crop marks are,
we will assume that you have included the minimum 1/8"
of bleed in your design and cut the final print(s) down to
size accordingly.
